Megalomaniac of the Week: the Master
Story: The date is 4 March 1215, and King John is paying a visit to the castle of Lord Ranulf. A loyal and devoted servant to the king, Ranulf is astonished by the behavior of his liege. Instead of acknowledging the lord's generous support, the King demands more - and when Ranulf protests in surprise, the King takes offense. His champion, the Frenchman Sir Gilles, challenges Ranulf to a duel, and to Ranulf's horror, his son Hugh accepts.
The next morning, as Hugh and Sir Gilles joust, the TARDIS materializes in front of all present. King John proclaims that the Doctor, Tegan and Turlough are demons, and the Doctor uses his newfound position to spare Hugh's life. Unfortunately for the TARDIS crew, Hugh sees this as a blow to his honor, and decides that the King's demons should pay...
Soon the Doctor, like Ranulf, realizes that something is wrong with the King. Ranulf's cousin, Sir Geoffrey, returns from a trip to London where he claims to have seen King John not four hours previously - but the King has been staying with Ranulf for a day. And then there is Sir Gilles, who is actually much more than he appears...and he's not the only one.
