Story: The Doctor's old friend Professor Arthur Stengos of the planet Necros has died - but the Doctor is not so sure his death was by natural causes. So, curious to investigate, he brings Peri to Necros to attend Stengos' funeral and do some snooping around. In the wilderness, they are attacked by a mutant - who tells them that he is a result of the Great Healer's experiments.
Meanwhile, in the complex known as Tranquil Repose, where people are kept in suspended animation until they can be healed of whatever ailment afflicts them, Stengos' daughter Natasha searches for his body. Careful to avoid the patrols on guard against grave robbers, Natasha and her friend Grigson discover that her father's body is missing from its alcove. And when Natasha finds out where it has gone, she is horrified - for his still-alive head forms the central component of a glass Dalek.
The Great Healer of Necros, who has supplied enough protein concentrate to cure whole worlds of famine, is actually an undercover Davros. His machinations to get money and increase his army of Daleks are not winning him any fans among his allies...but ensconced away in Tranquil Repose as he is, can anyone stop him? And what exactly is Davros' interest in Tranquil Repose? The immediate answer is too horrific to contemplate...and the long-term answer could mean death for the whole galaxy.
