Story: The Doctor and Ace arrive inside a military base in Yorkshire, 1943, to visit the brilliant Dr Judson. Judson has created an advanced codebreaking computer, the Ultima Machine, to decrypt German cyphers. Judson is also interested in a series of Viking runes carved in the crypt underneath the local church. Meanwhile, a group of Russian commandos are planning to steal the Ultima Machine - and the military base, having implanted a toxic bomb, plans to let them.

But there is more at work on the base than simply World War II politics. From the depths of the local bay, dangerous undercurrents are causing vampiric creatures to rise to the surface. As sudden storms and rolling fog blanket the countryside, the British and Russians must decide who their true enemy is.

An evil being from the dawn of time is preparing to make its re-entry into the real world. And when it does, its malevolent plans will impact Ace more than she ever knew was possible.
