Megalomaniac of the Week: Light

Story: Ostensibly as part of a deductive test, the Doctor brings Ace to England, during the Victorian era. But as Ace is quickly able to tell, the house in which they land is far more creepy than it is charming. Dead things clutter the shelves and line the walls, a creature is kept behind a heavy door in the basement, and when the duty shift of maids switches at six o'clock pm, evil emerges.

The house belongs to Josiah Samuel Smith, renowned evolutionist and light-sensitive recluse. He lives with his ward Gwendoline, Neanderthal manservant Nimrod, housekeeper Mrs Pritchard with her army of zombielike maids, and one-time explorer Redvers Fenn-Cooper, driven out of his mind by a horrible experience in the house.

Into this web of secrets come the Doctor and Ace, determined to uncover the truth about the house. When Ace discovers that the house is none other than Gabriel Chase, a spooky old building that she burned up in 1983 after sensing a terrible evil, she is less than pleased - Gabriel Chase gave her a permanent dislike of haunted houses, and she never wanted to visit one again. But Ace will have to face her fears, for things in the house are changing in alarming ways. And when they are all confronted by a powerful being intent on stopping all change, the entire Earth is threatened with destruction...
