Adric is from the planet Alzarius in E-Space, where the natives are descended from Marshmen and have amazingly rapid healing. Although most of his life was spent around a crashed starliner, Adric decided that he wanted to be a member of one of the local gangs, who lived in the wild and stole the food they needed. Yet still he felt that he didn't belong - Adric even had a premonition that he would be leaving Alzarius, but not with the starliner. Then he became tangled up with the Doctor.
His training for the gang has given Adric some talents in more dubious areas. He can pick locks, and, thanks to his nimble fingers, he can thieve and pickpocket if he thinks it necessary, although he often gets caught. He is also an extremely bright mathematician, for which he was awarded a Badge of Mathematical Excellence - a blue star pin edged in gold, which he wears on his left breast pocket. Coming from E-Space as he does, Adric is unfamiliar with many Earth customs and expressions, and is inclined to take them literally unless the Doctor explains the metaphorical meaning. And, being a growing boy, Adric is frequently - and voraciously - hungry.
Unfortunately for Adric, adolescence has been difficult. His brilliance has made him despised by some, so he is frequently argumentative and sullen. He is also very logical, and therefore quite gullible. If an enemy is persuasive enough, they might be able to get Adric to follow a course opposite the Doctor. On the other hand, if his life or those of his friends are threatened, he is equally likely to pretend to switch sides, thinking that he will be able to escape or find a way to help more easily. Sometimes this act can seem a bit too convincing to his travelling companions.
Adric frequently gets into arguments with Tegan, and often finds himself on the Doctor's bad side. He and Nyssa get along well, though, probably because they are both orphans and both complement the other well in scientific matters - his mathematics to Nyssa's bioelectronics. He is also rather adept at flying the TARDIS.
Adric is relatively short, with unruly dark brown hair and brown eyes. He stays dressed in his Alzarian clothes - green trousers, a yellow tunic with a red pocket, and a rope belt belonging to his brother, who was killed during Mistfall on Alzarius.
Adric's departure from the TARDIS crew was not of his choosing. In an attempt to keep a space freighter from wiping out all life on Earth, he stayed on board to alter its trajectory when the rest of the crew abandoned ship. But through no fault of his own, he was unable to succeed, and he perished when the ship exploded in the Earth's atmosphere - killing all of the dinosaurs along with him.
