The Cheetah People are furry, cat-like humanoids who live on an unnamed planet somewhere in the galaxy. The planet itself seems to be alive; if a person stays on it long enough, and begins to participate in the savage lifestyle it engenders, they begin to turn into a Cheetah Person. Presumably all the Cheetah People on the planet once belonged to other species.
Like most cats, the Cheetah People are very playful. They enjoy shiny toys and roughhousing with one another. But they are also skilled hunters, and once they set their sights on prey, they are not easily distracted. Usually the thing that attracts them to a particular prey - usually a human - is if it runs. A person who stands still presents a less appealing target. Cheetah People ride horses when they hunt, and they prefer to do so in the open, rather than chasing people through the wooded areas of the planet.
Sometimes when the Cheetah People kill their prey, they do not eat it, but rather leave it for the kitlings to devour. Bred by the original inhabitants of the planet, the kitlings are small black felines almost exactly like an ordinary housecat, at least physically. The kitlings have the ability to teleport to different planets, looking for carrion or prey that the Cheetah People can bring back to their planet.
The planet of the Cheetah people is wracked by almost constant volcanic activity, which increases the more the Cheetah People fight. Eventually, their fighting tears the planet apart.
