Dorothea Chaplet is a London schoolgirl who intended to use the TARDIS to report an accident, thinking it to be a real police box. Steven allowed her to enter, and because the real police were approaching, the Doctor decided to take off again. But Dodo has no regrets about being whisked away from Earth - she finds travelling in time and space a bit hard to believe at first, but ultimately very exciting, and has no desire to go home. Why should she, when the TARDIS takes her to places she's always wanted to visit, like meeting Wyatt Earp in the wild West? Her mother died when she was young, so Dodo had to live with her aunt, meaning that her ties to Earth are not as strong as they might have been.
Dodo initially has a fairly strong Cockney accent, but this fades rather quickly, indicating that she may have spent her time with Cockney-accented friends and only slipped into it with them. She grew up in London, where she went on trips to nearby attractions with her school, and she can instantly recognize the smell of the city. She seems to have learned a lot about nature.
Like Vicki, Dodo reminds the Doctor a bit of Susan. She is young and enthusiastic, curious, very trusting and often quite naive. She likes to have a good time, and enjoys going to nightclubs. She seems to have some ability at playing the piano, although it's not exactly clear if she really can play or if the piano is doing all the work while she has "a little bash" on it. She is also driven by her emotions, and is liable to want to help her foes when they are in trouble, even if such actions might endanger her own life. Dodo doesn't always think before she speaks or acts, which can get her into some trouble. She is also an inquisitive person, and she hates guided tours, meaning that she will sometimes slip away from groups to go investigating on her own. Despite her generally endearing nature, Dodo can be rebellious at times, particularly when she is made to do things she doesn't want to.
Dodo has a wide vocabulary of 60s slang ("fab", "gear", "okay"), all of which the Doctor finds quite appalling. He is determined that she should learn how to speak properly. Still, despite this disapproval, Dodo trusts him quite a lot and sometimes clings to him in times of trouble. Dodo is a diminutive girl with short dark hair and dark eyes. She likes to wear bold clothing, like a black-and-white medieval-style tabard or a bright red-and-black outfit dotted with large rings.
Dodo eventually leaves the Doctor after a trip back to London results in her coming under control of the supercomputer WOTAN. Once Dodo is freed from WOTAN's influence, she goes to the country to recuperate, and apparently loses her thrill with time-travelling. Either she realizes how much she misses home, or she realizes how dangerous travel with the Doctor can be, but either way, Dodo decides to stay in London and sends her love to the Doctor.
