The Drashigs are wormlike creatures that come from one of Grundel's satellites, where they live in colonies of about twenty apiece. It is said that a battle thruster once landed on the satellite to make emergency repairs; the crew of fifty thought they would be able to hold the Drashigs off, being equipped with the latest armaments as they were. However, nothing more was heard from them, so a scout orbiter was sent out to determine their fate. The pictures it returned showed that the entire thruster had been eaten, except for a few scraps of the reactor ventricle.
A few Drashigs were carted around by showman Zorg in circuit five of his miniscope; he called them "the most evil, the most vicious, and undoubtedly the most frightening form of life in the whole of the universe." Understandably, they were also the prize of his collection.
This assessment does not seem to be far from the truth. When crawling along the ground, the Drashings are apparently not that much taller than the average human, but when they rear up on one end, they are quite a fearsome sight. Their bodies are covered in armored plates with spines sticking through the joints. Their large, snout-like mouths are full of sharp teeth. They also seem to like living underground in marshy areas, and they surface dramatically through the mud once they have scented their prey. The Drashigs have very good senses of smell, as it is the method by which they hunt, and once they catch a scent, they do not give up until they have caught their prey or are dead. They emit a cry when hunting that sounds like a roar and a scream combined. Drashigs do not, however, have an intelligence center, so their hunting is more a result of instinct than cunning. Although they prefer flesh, the Drashigs are omnivores and will even eat metal. Sometimes they seem to attack one another. Killing a Drashig is not an easy thing. They seem less than fond of fire, but a little bit doesn't really hurt them. Fortunately, both gunshots and dynamite seem to do the trick.
