Story: Unfortunately for Ben, his prediction that the TARDIS has brought them to England of the twentieth century turns out to be false - the TARDIS crew is, in fact, in Scotland during the eighteenth century, during the Jacobite Rebellion of 1746. Ben learns this the hard way when, while exploring the surrounding countryside, he and the others are captured by a small band of Scots, the McLaren clan. Their lives are only spared because the Laird has been injured, and his daughter Kirsty hopes that the Doctor might be able to help.

While Polly and Kirsty head off to fetch fresh water, English Redcoats surround the hut and capture the Doctor and Ben, along with the Laird and the clan piper, Jamie McCrimmon. The Doctor's attempts to free them are to no avail, and they are sentenced to be hung. Polly and Kirsty manage to postpone the execution, but in the process find themselves hunted as well by some English soldiers who believe that one of them may be Bonnie Prince Charlie in disguise.

Polly and Kirsty must rely on their combined wits to outsmart the English officers and find a way to get to the Doctor and Ben. Meanwhile, aboard the ship, the Doctor is trying to find a way to free them all. The captured Highlanders are in grave danger of being either hung or sold as slave labor, but the Doctor and Ben will be of no help to them if they are dead...
