Story: Sir Reginald Styles, organizer of the second World Peace Conference, is frightened out of his wits one evening when an assassin appears from behind a curtain, tries to murder him, and then suddenly vanishes into thin air. When his secretary rushes in, having heard the cries, she finds Sir Reginald muttering something about ghosts...

UNIT is soon called in, and the Doctor and Jo decide to spend a night at Auderly House in case the assassins return. Return they do, and soon the Doctor and Jo are being held hostage by a group of guerillas from the future. But this is not the only anomaly in the English countryside. Hairy, bestial aliens are stomping through the hillsides - but for what reason, and who do they serve?

The answer is to be found in the future - the aliens' masters are none other than the Daleks. Their time-travel technology has enabled the Daleks to travel back in time and conquer the Earth, and while most of the humans have been put to work for the Dalek empire, others have refused to bow to their new masters. When the Doctor and Jo are drawn into the struggle, they learn that Earth's future is a grim and dangerous place indeed...and soon the past may be irredeemable as well.
