Light

Along with an experimental creature and a control creature, Light travelled the universe in a stone spaceship, cataloging all life. After centuries collating information on every species on the planet Earth, something happened, and Light went dormant in its spacecraft. While Light slept, the control creature stayed shut up in one of the compartments on the craft. The experimental creature, on the other hand, began to evolve, sloughing off its previous forms as husks. By the Victorian era, it had become Josiah Samuel Smith. Josiah and Control are frightened of it; explorer Redvers Fenn-Cooper saw it and lost his mind; and Josiah's servant Nimrod, a Neanderthal collected by Light, worships it, calling it the Burning One. Then, Light awakens.

Its shape on Earth is that of a glowing angel. It moves at the speed of thought, appearing in a flash of - unsurprisingly - light. It is extremely powerful, able to control individual microbes and kill people - even turn them to stone - at a glance. And it despises change.

Light is enraged to find that while it slept, everything changed - all those centuries of work wasted. Lest things continue to evolve, Light decides to eradicate all organic life in a firestorm - therefore, no more change, no more evolution, no more life...and no more amendments to its catalog. It had originally decided to turn all life on Earth into primordial soup, until it realized that this would not stop change.

However, Light's inability to deal with change eventually proves to be its downfall. When Light realizes that even it has changed, the confusion causes it to destroy itself. The energy from the firestorm is channeled instead into the takeoff of its stone spacecraft, now manned by a new crew.
