Polly is from Chelsea in 1966. Originally a secretary for Professor Brett in London's Post Office Tower, Polly fell under the spell of his supercomputer WOTAN and helped it to construct its devastating War Machines. But when her new acquaintance Ben was captured, Polly first prevented his execution and then allowed him to escape, proving that her will is strong enough to prevail even through mind control. In the end, she persuaded Ben to postpone returning to his barracks long enough to return the Doctor's TARDIS key. They followed him into the TARDIS...which then dematerialized with them inside.
Polly is a tall blonde woman with brown eyes, long legs and thick eyelashes. Her attractive appearance, combined with her slightly haughty demeanor, makes her seem a bit stuck-up - until she turns on one of her bright smiles or makes a silly face! In fact, appearances are very deceiving with Polly, who is a genuinely warm and caring person. She makes friends quickly, and is a very loyal friend herself. During their travels, Ben and Polly become very close, although Ben never tires of teasing Polly about how proper and stuck-up she can be. He is fond of calling her "Duchess", a nickname Polly claims to dislike.
One of Polly's great assets is her sunny disposition. She often finds herself assigned to the task of cheering people up, and fortunately she is quite good at it! But Polly is not without her silly side, and can sometimes be rather cheeky. Sadly, owing to her good looks and femininity, poor Polly often finds herself underappreciated by the men around her. They frequently regard her as nothing more than a human coffeemaker, and even the Doctor has been guilty of such crimes! And again, appearances are deceiving with Polly - beneath her glamor-girl exterior is a clever, inventive woman (who does, nevertheless, sometimes cling to her companions and scream in terror when confronted with a monster, or a rat).
Polly likes to go clubbing and dance, and knows the hottest nightspots in London. She is also a great typist. Polly is talented with languages, and can speak at least French, German and Spanish. She has fillings in her teeth.
Polly finally leaves the Doctor's company when the TARDIS returns her and Ben back to London, 1966, mere days after they had joined the Doctor on her travels.
