Story: The TARDIS crew gets a bit of entertainment when the Doctor finishes working on his new Time-Space Visualizer - a device taken from the Xerons' space museum which allows its viewers to watch any moment in the history of the universe. Ian tunes into the Gettysburg Address, Barbara takes a peek at Shakespeare in Queen Elizabeth's court, and Vicki is disappointed to learn that the Beatles played "classical music".

When they then land on the desert planet of Aridius, the Doctor and Barbara take the opportunity to do some sunbathing while Ian and Vicki go off to solve an intriguing mystery. But when Barbara happens to pass by the Time-Space Visualizer again, she sees an image of the Daleks, who have pursued the TARDIS to Aridius. Realizing that the Daleks may already be on the planet, the Doctor and Barbara must find Ian and Vicki and leave the planet before the Daleks catch up with them.

But escape will not be that easy. With their newly-acquired time technology, the Daleks possess the capability to track the TARDIS crew all across time and space. A chase ensues across three planets and five time zones until the TARDIS crew are forced to make a final showdown on the planet Mechanus. But with the local inhabitants potentially just as deadly as the Daleks, they may have jumped from the frying pan into the fire...
