Megalomaniac of the Week: The Meddling Monk

Story: Following the TARDIS' latest materialization, the Doctor and Vicki are startled by Steven's sudden appearance from within the TARDIS - and, as a result, they fail to notice the cowled figure outside, examining the TARDIS. The figure watches the TARDIS crew leave, then returns to a nearby monastery.

Having split up from Vicki and Steven, the Doctor comes upon a Saxon village, where he is told that the year is 1066 and the place Northumbria - the setting for the Battle of Hastings. But this seems to be contradicted when, during a tussle with a local man, Steven comes away with the man's wristwatch.

The year is indeed 1066, but England of the past is littered with objects from the future. The reason for all of the anachronistic items becomes clear when the Doctor learns that the mysterious monk is, in fact, a fellow renegade from his home planet. But far from a benign figure, the Monk is out to achieve his own vile objective - to irrevocably alter the course of Earth's history.
