Story: In an attempt to escape a lava flow, the Doctor uses an emergency circuit to take the TARDIS out of time and space altogether. They appear in a void of nothingness, where a mysterious voice attempts to lure Jamie and Zoe out of the TARDIS. The Doctor barely manages to save them, but on his next attempt to escape, the TARDIS breaks apart under the psychic attack.

Separated, the Doctor, Jamie and Zoe come to in a mysterious forest. Jamie finds himself confronting a Redcoat soldier; when he attacks, the soldier fires, freezing him where he stands. Zoe, meanwhile, is trapped in a stone room, and when she tries to escape through a doorway that opens up, she topples down a large dark shaft. As the Doctor tries to find them, a figure watches them from a control room, highly amused by their performances.

The Doctor and his companions have arrived in the Land of Fiction, a place where the impossible becomes possible and where things that once only existed in the imagination now become far too real. For unless the Doctor, Jamie and Zoe can outwit the laws of the Land and the creations that dwell therein, they may become fictional characters as well.
