Then they stumble across signs that someone else has been to the moon. The chief of the moon research base contacts the U.N. to see if anyone else has sent an expedition to the moon that he doesn't know about, and they don't know anything. The security council is worried that some nation is engaging in illegal weapons research, and they send up a shuttle with a small UNIT detachment. [credit to Myrlin] ::Scene: A small shuttle carrying Sgt. Benton and Jo Grant to the moon to meet with Prof. Riley:: (On radio) Ok you know what you have to do, right Benton? Prof. Riley, this is Sgt. John Benton from UNIT. We will be arriving shortly... * Jo_Grant looks at Benton What is it, Ms. Grant? Benton, what exactly are we looking for? The security council has evidence of other powers at work here... Other powers??? They're worried about a foreign country using the moon as a secret weapons research base. Large footprints were found on the moon's surface. * Jo_Grant edges closer to Benton......... "Oh, I see" Footprints!! Giant ones! Hold on, we're coming in for a landing... * Jo_Grant braces herself Well, we've landed safely. Got your space suit ready? * Jo_Grant smiles nervously at Benton * SgtBenton puts on space suit Oh yes!!!!!...... * Jo_Grant pulls on space suit * Dr_Riley sees them on the radar, and has his crew ready the airlock and landing facilities. * SgtBenton departs the Shuttle * Assistant_Scientist holds Riley's clipboard * Jo_Grant quickly follows Greetings. Hello * Jo_Grant reaches to shake hand * Dr_Riley greets the UNIT delegates, and brings them to the lab where they are analyzing the strange equipment found on the lunar surface. * Dr_Riley shakes Jo's hand. * Jo_Grant looks at equipment... So, is that the strange equipment we've been hearing so much about, Dr. Riley? Dr Riley, what IS all this stuff? Sergeant, Miss Grant, have a look at this little device. * Jo_Grant looks Sure thing, Dr. Riley. What is it?? Well, we're not certain what all of it is... but one of the items seems to be a large power generator, and there seems to be something that could act as a focusing point for an energy beam. An energy beam???? From where? Well, this odd looking tube here seems to be mining equipment, it can bore through 50 feet of rock in about 3 seconds. * Brigadier opens a communication channel with Benton and company Benton here. Go ahead. (sort of fuzzy) Did you make it safely? Yes, Brig. We're on the moonbase with Dr. Riley He's showing us a strange drilling device he and his team found. From the power generator, Miss Grant. I'm not sure, but I think it might be a weapon What does it look like? * Jo_Grant looks closer Fascinating.... It's sort of...well...I can't quite explain it sir. Perhaps one of the scientists could explain it to you? Benton, that sounds like a good idea. Patch one of them through Dr. Riley and I don't entirely agree on the uses of all of the items. But in my opinion, this is a very dangerous device The technology is very similar to the drill we have here. Why do you say that? * Dr_Riley takes the communicator and explains to the Brigadier. * Jo_Grant looks at the assistant But look at the way it's mounted, Dr. Riley. This is meant to be pointed at Earth! Thank you Dr. Riley. * Brigadier sketches out a rough drawing along with notes So what is this device, Jo? Sergeant, they are not sure..... interesting... do you have any ideas as to its purpose? Yes, that's why we alerted the security council * Jo_Grant knows the Doctor would probably know Have you found any other weapons here? * Brigadier overhears the word "weapons" Or investigated the footprints? * Jo_Grant turns quickly weapons? This device seems to be aimed toward the mid-Atlantic ridge, which as you know is one of the most volcanic areas on Earth's surface. An energy beam of the magnitude this could generate could bore a hole into the center of the Earth... from this distance. Just think of the geological havoc that would cause. Yes, footprints!!!!! What are they do you think? Yes Brig-the scientists disagree on the device's purpose We aren't quite sure what would happen if it where fired. One thinks it's a sort of drill-the other thinks it's a weapon. In any event, it's aimed at Earth. I overheard something about Earth. Am I to assume this "weapon" as it seems is pointed at some target? let me get back with you. I have to tell the council about this immediately If only the Doctor were here. * Brigadier almost turns it off then hesitates I'm sorry, who? Is this more UNIT backup? Not quite Riley...he's our old scientific advisor. * Brigadier tells Benton to explain to Riley about the Doctor A scientific advisor? That hardly seems necessary, there are over 3 dozen of the top scientists in the world up here! tell him about that Yeti business Well, he's not quite from this world... * Assistant_Scientist looks miffed. "Well if you're going to bring in outside experts..." What is this about another world? The first Mars expedition only arrived 4 years ago. Trust me...it'd take a long time to explain. * Brigadier notices a blip on the moon monitoring equipment * Brigadier messages Benton about it Well, what is this 'Doctor's' specialty. He can handle just about anything, really. * Jo_Grant grins at Benton's statement Dr. Riley, shouldn't we show them the entrance to the sealed tunnel we found? I just picked up something on the tracking equipment Lead on, Doctor. What is it Brig? * Dr_Riley show them where the vac-suits are, and they all put them on. Ohhhhhhh, that's going to leave a mark! * DrWhatzis falls on his back...his legs kick up in the air in a final death throe... * Saboteur ignores DrWhatzis and grabs a roll of Duct tape from his belt, ties Ben's hands together and puts a piece of tape over his mouth so he can't scream... * Saboteur kicks DrWhatzis and searches him for valuables... * Ben_Jackson wakes up * Saboteur looks through DrWhatzis coat pockets, and finds some miscellaneous things of no value.. and tosses them aside, "Damn.." * Ben_Jackson notices his hands are tied behind him * Ben_Jackson sees Saboteur over the dead Whatzis * Ben_Jackson tries to get up and get out * DrWhatzis rolls over convincingly. * Saboteur notices Ben's groans and looks over at him... * Saboteur gets a look of alarm on his face.. * Saboteur runs up to Ben and kicks him HARD in his side... * Ben_Jackson groans * Ben_Jackson thinks of some navy words but the gag won't let him say them * Saboteur yells at him in anger, "What did I tell you! You were damn lucky that bullet didn't hit you..." * Saboteur continues on, "I would have killed you though, but you aren't worth another bullet.." * Ben_Jackson glares * Ben_Jackson tries to free his hands but the tape is too tight * Saboteur pants, "Well, I guess I'd better lock you somewhere were nobody is going to see you huh?
