Come on, Grant. I believe our ride is here. Well Romana, we get to save the Universe again! I don't mind, just having to do that with you... ***** * Qapl whistles into the cavernous control room of the secret Vardan headquarters * Qapl scans the room to see Splerp and Gurd at different monitors ah-hahahahaha! * Qapl turns as KVlin enters, laughing You have accomplished something, KVlin? The status of the device is 61 percent. * _Device beeps Splerp, I never get tired of laughing at your name. * Splerp_the_Vardan is very insulted For your information, Splerp is a very, very honorable Clan name! * Gurd_the_Vardan notes that KVlin is the chief engineer on the Vardan device 61 percent is not satisfactory, but you are making rapid progress. But I think I can hasten the progress even more. * Splerp_the_Vardan cross wires something and a panel blows up * Qapl squawks and hurries away * Qapl missed KVlin's report because of the explosion Splerp! I was hoping for a Dalek invasion again. * TARDIS materialises on Earth The TARDIS knows where to go. Did you read over the charts? They may have the key on how to stop these creatures. * TARDIS doors open Don't worry, Romana. I never fail like your Doctor! * Doctor_6_ leaves the TARDIS Doctor, I believe the Vardans plan to chit chat everyone to death with tech talk. * RomanaI follows the Doctor They tried that before. * Doctor_6_ follows his stomach... er... nose How do you want to stop them? This way I think! * RomanaI rolls her eyes at the 6th Doctor * Wee_Earth_Lass skips along * Wee_Earth_Laddie runs after the lass, grinning at her I'll reverse the polarity of their neutron flow! Why to Varda, Grant. Where else to check up on the Vardans? Who are they??? They are strange creatures that travel on carrier waves. They look a bit like tinfoil, when you can see them at all. * Grant_Markham laughs Tinfoil monsters! You won't laugh when one of them corners you and tries to talk you to death. Talk me to death??? * Grant_Markham shudders * Doctor-2 sets the coordinates for Varda * Doctor-2 hits the switch to materialize the TARDIS on Varda Well, it seems we are here. On Varda? Yes. Now you must be very careful. The Vardans are somewhat telepathic. You mustn't think that we are here to spy on them. * Grant_Markham thinks of some nonsense for protection * Doctor-2 thinks of Gallifreyan nursery rhymes * Doctor-2 opens the door and leads Grant out onto Varda * Grant_Markham walks out of the TARDIS * Doctor-2 looks around * Doctor-2 doesn't see any invisible Vardans This is Varda??? Looks unimpressive to me... * Wee_Little_Vardan shimmers along Well, what did you expect? It's not like incorporeal, radio-wave beings need furniture. Oh, yes, and even somewhat sentient. * Grant_Markham sends the little Vardan some nursery rhymes * Doctor-2 goes through his pockets for something to interest the young Vardan * Wee_Little_Vardan rustles indignantly at the stupid creatures They look harmless enough... * Doctor-2 pulls out a transistor radio * Doctor-2 turns it on, forgetting that nobody is broadcasting here * Wee_Little_Vardan rustles closer and a high pitched sound emits from it Shouldn't we find out what is going on, Doctor? Chancellor Flavia said it was serious. * Wee_Little_Vardan shimmers violently, turns and hurries away * Wee_Little_Vardan hurries to the Vardan headquarters looking for its parent * Doctor-2 follows the little Vardan * Grant_Markham follows the Doctor * Qapl is rustling through the halls when he bumps into his little Ffomp, which is being pursued by two VISIBLE creatures! * Doctor-2 stops short * Grant_Markham bumps into the Doctor * Qapl ushers the distraught Ffomp off through several twisty corridors Ah, someone old enough to talk to! * Qapl is GONE Where did they go, Doctor? * Doctor-2 sighs What do we do now, Doctor? * Doctor-2 shrugs The script writers seem to have left us high and dry, Grant. * Qapl drops Ffomp off at their quarters and rushes to the control room I can't see any Vardans here... * Hurrying_Vardan skims past the Doctor on its way to the control room * Doctor-2 starts as the Vardan swishes by Oh, my giddy aunt! A live one! What was that! Doctor! * Doctor-2 approaches the Vardan * Hurrying_Vardan glides off down the halls Excuse me, sir. Could you direct us to your secret installation? * Grant_Markham points to door Err. Doctor, they went into that door down there. * Doctor-2 tries the door and finds it leads into the control room * Doctor-2 goes in * Grant_Markham follows * Grant_Markham looks around in wonder What great technology! The device should be ready for testing! How long? * Doctor-2 approaches Qapl Excuse me, what is going on here? * Qapl swishes around and rustles angrily at the VISIBLE being that has intruded * Qapl realizes that Splerp is still visible at his console Now don't get all rustly with me. I'm just doing my job here! The device is prepared. * Qapl ignores the Doctor Begin the first test! * BlueSplerp adjusts a crosshair and presses a red button * Grant_Markham wonders if he can hack into the Vardans' computer Grant, have a look at that console and see if you can tell what they're doing. * Grant_Markham moves to the console * Grant_Markham types a few commands and hacks in WHAT ARE YOU DOING!? Er... Do you know that that is a multi-phase scanning tandometer you are playing with?! Er...no...what's that when it's at home? * Qapl zooms to Grant's side and towers above him menacingly You may have just doomed this entire sector of the galaxy! * Grant_Markham shudders again at the thought of being talked to death Now don't get upset with the boy. I told him to check what you were doing. * Qapl looks more closely at the panel * Doctor-2 goes over and checks what the Vardan is towering over Oh. That is not the multi-phase scanning tandometer. Phew!! Hmmm, looks like he's set up a repeating relativistic dommer loop. I did what!?! Don't worry, Grant. The sun won't explode for another 100 years or so. * Grant_Markham did not realise he did that, he thought he was just hacking It is nonsequential, however, which means that the feedback will be intangible and therefore quite harmless. * Qapl comes to his senses Yes, but all it takes to make it sequential is flipping this switch here... Splerp, take them away for interrogation! * Doctor-2 flicks the switch * BlueSplerp moves forward, then pauses in horror Oh, dear...I believe I've done it now... ::ending credits for first episode:: * Doctor_6 fiddles with his torch * RomanaI looks around Doctor, where are you? It's my torch! * RomanaI takes the torch from the Doctor and turns it on * Purple-Pinpoint-of-Light appears in a shadowed area of the cave * Janie_ moves closer to the entrance to get a better look * Purple-Pinpoint-of-Light expands Romana...look! * Purple-Pinpoint-of-Light becomes a raging vortex I think we've found something! * PurpleVortex whooshes a bit in a corner of the cave Hmmm, don't care for that purple colour. * IrritatingNoise is coming from the vortex * Janie_ moves closer and finally spots the purple light * Janie_ gapes What could it be? And what is that irritating noise? * Robby_ grins widely * Janie_ whispers back at Robby Stop grinning, you dunce...look at that light! I think these folks could be...aliens! Aliens. Hmm. * Robby_ grins * PurpleVortex thrums menacingly It could be a sign of danger. Doctor, why don't we move closer to see? I think we should get closer. * Streaks-of-Red appear in the vortex Romana...you first! * RomanaI goes over to the vortex * Doctor_6 hangs back * RomanaI moves very close to the vortex * Janie_ creeps deeper into the cave Doctor, I insist. * Painful-Noise comes from the vortex and knocks Romana and the Doctor back * Janie_ covers her ears from the noise Well, that was rude! * Painful-Noise increases in intensity Some type of spatial disturbance. * Janie_ whispers again to Robbie If these blokes is aliens, we could be famous...imagine! I'd like to be famous. * Robby_ rustles happily * Janie_ grins at Robby for once Robbie, we gotta do somethin' Nothin' we *can* do. * Painful-Noise starts to prickle the Time Lords' flesh I think it's out of control, Romana! * Janie_ reaches into her pants pocket We can take some pictures... * Janie_ pulls out a disposable camera I pinched it from me uncle. What's that, Janie?! * Robby_ is fascinated by the camera It's a camera...shhh! Romana! * Doctor_6 sees Romana disappear * Janie_ prepares to take a picture * Janie_ snaps the picture with an audible click and flash * Doctor_6 mumbles Help, Doctor, what's happening? You keep fading in and out, Romana! Is it the vortex? * Janie_ moves closer and takes another picture... CLICK FLASH Who's taking snaps?! * PurpleVortex is disrupted by the flash, flickers, and vanishes * Painful-Noise cuts off too * Janie_ tries to jump back into hiding Hey! What happened to the light? * Doctor_6 looks bemused That shouldn't have happened. * Janie_ hopes she was not seen * Robby_ remembers he is supposed to be hiding, and flattens himself against the wall Grab those kids! They might know something. Oi! * Robby_ turns to run away * Janie_ gasps and tries to run * Robby_ bumps into Janie Ouch! Quick Robbie! Aliens! * Robby_ doesn't know which way to run! * Janie_ points at the crazily dressed man * Doctor_6 runs through the cave blindly - Romana has the torch! <_Tessa> Aliens? See Tessa, that bloke in the ugly coat is an alien and they were talking to a purple light! * Doctor_6 exits the cave * Doctor_6 sees the kids Tessa, we gotta go. <_Tessa> Now, Janie...not everyone is an alien. * Doctor_6 runs towards them <_Tessa> But they can be strangers. * Janie_ sees the man and gives a small squeal * Robby_ looks over at the Doctor and quakes, scared * _Tessa suggests in a small voice <_Tessa> Maybe he just wants directions. * Doctor_6 turns back to look for Romana He don't want no directions, Tessa! * Janie_ clutches the camera <_Tessa> What are the pictures of? He's an alien, Tessa, he was trying to communicate with aliens... like in ET! Yeah, and she got pictures of it! <_Tessa> Uh-huh. I think you children have have seen too many movies. * RomanaI wakes up and also runs after the children Doctor, why exactly are we chasing children? Little girl, I need that camera. * Janie_ juts out her chin NO! The snaps is mine! * _Tessa steps up to the Doctor <_Tessa> Sir, this is her camera. You just can't take it. We'll see. He's got to be an alien...look at them clothes. * Robby_ rustles a bit and makes a determined effort to stop the noise * Janie_ looks curiously at Robby * _Tessa puts a hand on Janie's shoulder * RomanaI catches up to the Doctor and the children, confused Look, you don't understand. There is something very dangerous in that cave. We saw it, mister! <_Tessa> What's there to understand? She took pictures. It's her camera. Doctor, why are you attacking these children? Shush, Romana. <_Tessa> That's what I'd like to know. * Janie_ points at Romana And SHE went in and out. I didn't faint in and out, that was my clothing. <_Tessa> Janie knows to stay out of caves, don't you? * Janie_ quickly relents Yes, Tessa. Look i can develop your snaps in a minute, I just need to look at them. <_Tessa> Why? That I can't tell you. Doctor, they already took pictures, they know too much. * Janie_ drops her head but furtively watches the man through her lashes I shall return your snaps. * Janie_ shakes her head and bursts into fake tears Look, now you've made her cry an' all! NO! Make this man leave me alone! * _Tessa comforts Janie * Doctor_6 hurrumphs I think Daleks are easier to handle than children. Doctor, what about the vortex and the factory? They must connect to why we were sent here. * Janie_ turns and runs away * Janie_ dashes out of the cave and hides in some bushes <_Tessa> Janie!!! Now really, this is completely out of hand! * Robby_ blinks, but is really too afraid to run * _Tessa stomps to the 'strange man' <_Tessa> Was that really necessary? What is it that you want? Look, if I told you, then we would both know! * Janie_ clutches the camera and dreams of exposing the aliens If my Doctor ever knew he turn out like this, he would have hung himself with that scarf of his. It's about time! * RomanaI follows the Doctor * Janie_ moves closer to the cave entrance to see what is happening * Robby_ is dragged along by Tessa, who is also following * Janie_ follows, hanging back * RomanaI remembers she had a tracer and runs it over a section of the factory * RomanaI shows the read-outs to the Doctor So, wha' is this place, anyway? And what's it doin' in the middle of a cave? Yes, why is there a factory in a cave? Silly child - for plot purposes. You'll understand when you're older. * RomanaI pats the boy * Robby_ rustles in irritation at being patted I know how much you'd like to go through the window, Romana, but I think we should try the door! * Janie_ pulls out the camera and tries to take a picture without the flash * Janie_ jumps as the shutter barely clicks * RomanaI takes the camera * Janie_ shrieks HEY! Is this your spaceship or somethin', mister? I don't have a spaceship. You sayin' yer not an alien? * Janie_ puts her hands on her hips I'm half-Venusian on my great-uncle's side. Nuh-uh! You ain't got five legs! I mean, that's what I heard...well, my mum told me stories. We should go into the cave, don't you think, Doctor? * Doctor_6 ignores the rabble and the read-outs * Doctor_6 opens the door... ***** * Doctor-2 looks around the Vardan control room The feedback appears to have been cut off. * Qapl frowns Why is this?! SPLERP! * Grant_Markham is still looking at the computer Oh dear, oh dear... what HAVE I done. It seems that this switch did something after all! I hope you didn't do something BAD, Doctor. You nearly destroyed the experiment! * Doctor-2 winks at Grant * Grant_Markham smiles back I don't know, Grant... but I believe this may bring the Vardan plans to someone's attention. Let's hope it's someone who can help. I am told that two aliens witnessed the scene. * Doctor-2 looks at the Vardan Who, me? * Qapl waits for Splerp, who is frantically looking at dials, to answer him Now, hadn't you better tell me what you're up to? * Qapl ignores the Doctor for the moment Splerp, tell me what happened. I think that overloaded something. * Splerp frantically checks dials Well, that organic being messed with some of the controls... and I don't know... * Splerp is very nervous around organic beings * Qapl rustles with barely pent-up rage * Grant_Markham looks at Splerp You are confined to quarters, Splerp!
