What type of discharge? (from under the scanner panel) How far away from earth are we again? * Q_Chandler frowns at the readings * James_Olson rolls out from underneath and looks at Chandler's screen Unidentifiable, sir. The nearest thing I can compare it to is neural energy... * James_Olson wipes his grimy hands Neural? Like electrical brain charges? Yes, like in the brain. Neurons firing. But there aren't any neurons out there. Cap'n. There's some sort of...sensor power drain. * James_Olson sighs I KNOW, I'm working on fixing it... * James_Olson dives back under the scanner console * James_Olson fumbles around for some tools Power drain? Something from outside? From the...nebula? Do you want me to steer us through it, captain? Back away slowly. * Q_Chandler nods and taps some course corrections into his console It's just a nebula. Cap'n... It's coming from a source other than the nebula. We are only picking this up because I am fiddling with the mechanism. 30 degrees to port. Scan the source. * James_Olson gets back out and looks Sir, it's... some sort of ship. I'm scanning them...they appear to be missing any engine capability. Maybe we can scavenge it. It looks like a small freighter. I served on its type about four years ago. Life signs? Yes, life signs? I'm detecting a few life signs...but very weak. Perhaps three or four. In stasis? Uncertain. James, let's see if we can help them, if they're still alive. Yeah, we should. Maybe we should take the balster pistols just in case... Approach them slowly. Olson...hail them. * James_Olson opens the comm This is star freighter Targas 5, do you copy? This is star freighter Targas 5, do you copy? Over? No response as yet, sir... Hmm, can you get visual? * James_Olson fiddles with the controls coming up with fuzzy static, and distorted images. Nope. Damn. They might be unconscious. Sickbay, prepare for patients. Well, do we dock with it? We might be able to do valuable scavenging in there... I'm reading functional life support, but that's about all. Yes. Dock. Sir? Shouldn't we arm ourselves in case they are hostile? Take phaser pistols, set them on stun. But let's greet them friendly, first. They don't appear hazardous...not without an engine and hardly any weapons capability... Yes, sir. * James_Olson opens the weapons locker and hands out stasers Beginning docking procedure, sir. Oh yes, we're using stazers, now. * James_Olson looks out the smudgy viewport Yeah, I served on a freighter of that kind about four years ago. * Q_Chandler operates his controls as the Targas 5 clunks into place, locked onto the freighter Olson, Chandler, come with me to the docking door. * James_Olson opens the door and heads down to the docking ring Yes, sir. * Q_Chandler jumps up to get his stazer Pressurize the connecting passage and open the airlock. Aye, sir. Pressurizing. It'll take about thirty seconds. * Q_Chandler tries to see through the docking bay window, but it's too grimy and scratched May have to open their airlock door manually. Lemme get my tools. Entering airlock. * James_Olson grabs his toolbox * James_Olson peers into the lightless airlock I've got a bad feeling about this... Get a hold of yourself. It's worth it, Olson, if we get some good supplies. Now opening frighter airlock door * James_Olson takes out a small torch and shines it down the small corridor * Q_Chandler follows Olson out, keeping a hand on his stazer and waving his torch about There's... something moving. * Cyberleader_ steps out of the darkness. * James_Olson jumps back in surprise and rather a bit of horror My god... that's a... Stay where you are. oh no... Cyberman! * Q_Chandler gapes, feet rooted to the ground * Cyberleader_ marches forward. Cy...cy...cyber...cybermen... * C_Adams pulls out his stazer * James_Olson shakily tries to find his staser pistol * James_Olson drops the toolbox and torch with a loud clatter I've fought you in the trans-cyber war. * Q_Chandler belatedly raises his stazer too Run, James and Chandler! Close the airlock! * Q_Chandler staggers back and tries to start closing the airlock Put down your weapons. * C_Adams fires to distract the Cyberman * Cyberleader_ grabs Chandler by the throat. * Cyberperson appears, still in the shadows Aaigh! * Q_Chandler bashes at the Cyberman with his torch, the stazer having fallen to the ground * Cyberleader_ throttles Chandler. * Q_Chandler chokes "Wade!" before a loud crack is heard and his head lolls to one side * James_Olson tries to reach the airlock controls * James_Olson finally finds his pistol and draws it * Cyberperson approaches James_Olson * C_Adams fires again Run James! * C_Adams intervenes * James_Olson shakily takes aim at the nearest Cyberman * Cyberleader_ drops Chandler's body. Get in the ship, boy! And close the airlock! * James_Olson tosses the gun at the Cyberman's face and runs like hell * C_Adams attacks the Cyberman Put down your weapons and you will not be harmed. * Cyberperson swings an arm and hits James_Olson on the side of the head * James_Olson goes spinning down the corridor, barely conscious. Capn, Capn! * Cyberleader_ lurches after the humans. * James_Olson staggers and puts his hand to his head, and feels the nasty sticky lump created by the metal fist Capn, do you read me? Remain still! * James_Olson belatedly raises his hands Maur! It's Cybermen... Get the ship out of here... stop the Cyber... * Cyberperson raises a phaser and takes aim... * Cyberperson fires and watches C-Adams head splatter everywhere Ow... *plop* Capn, it's too late... they've clamped on... * James_Olson shrieks at being covered in pieces of skull and grey matter He was helpless! He could not have harmed you! Computer, lock down ship... No unauthorized voice... * Cyberleader_ marches over and wrenches the airlock door free. Lock down engines... * James_Olson takes off towards the bridge Close the blast doors! * Cyberleader_ puts his fist through the door controls to jam them. There... They won't steal our engine. * James_Olson slaps the control panel of a door as he runs through Maur to sickbay? * James_Olson skitters into the bridge Anyone there? * Maur hears an explosion Damn, they're shooting at us! Should we arm the self-destruct? * Cyberleader_ gestures to his troops to enter the human ship. James, I dont have that access...only the cap'n does. * Cyberperson follows with the cyber-troops and enters the ship Let's remove the fuel rods from the reactor. It'll go critical and blow. We'd better hide... Get in the access tubes! All right, maybe they'll leave when they find what they want. * Cyberleader_ points to two Cybermen. Secure the drive room. * Cyberleader_ leads the rest towards the bridge. * Cyberperson gets to work with another Cyberman * The_Drive_Room is secured * James_Olson uses a screwdriver to prise off a vent. * James_Olson scrabbles inside * Maur follows James Ouch... I'm stuck on a screw. You should take em out fully, boy... Let's head to the garbage chute. I doubt they'll look for us there. OK. Though I hate to think how my clothes'll smell. Well, better dead than smeg. Come on. * James_Olson crawls through the corridors Maybe we'll find something to make a weapon out of. Spoiled tuna? Banana peels? * James_Olson looks down into the drive room from the grating What're they doing? Stripping down the power drive? Hmm, to use on their own ship...possible. We need to get into their ship... maybe we'll be able to find something there we can use. Possibly, but I'm sure they have upgraded the security systems to CYBER proportions. That's nothing to an engineer with a little motivation...and two engineers...well, we ought to pull it off. Come on, let's get to the chute, it'll be fastest anyway. Till they finish their sweep of the ship...OK then. Peeyuu... I think all my memories of fixing this place a year ago are coming back. * James_Olson crawls down more corridors * James_Olson slides out into the garbage chute Hey! You hear something? Sorta like...rusty gears or an engine... Sounded like a vworp. Yeah. Just like that. I wonder if it's some Cyberweapon? * James_Olson sees the distortion in the center of the room We better hide. Yeah. Into the icky slimey garbage... * James_Olson takes cover beind a junk pile and grabs a large pipe ***** Sure, Doctor. That's the last time I let you talk me into seeing the famous ice caves of Darla Prime. * PeriBrown brushes snow off her collared green shirt and jeans, then shivers a bit Well, I can't say I didn't warn you. Yes you can. You didn't. You said "It's quite modern, Peri." You didn't mention the howling snowstorms! * PeriBrown looks at the column What, we've landed already? I haven't even warmed up yet. * PeteDoc checks the readings on the console. I suppose we could check what's out there. Are you sure it's safe? And is it warm? * PeteDoc turns on the scanner. * PeriBrown grimaces Yuck. It looks like a garbage dump. It *is* a garbage dump, Peri. We're on some sort of ship. Is this another of your vacation ideas? Not in the least. Well, it still tops a few of them. Come on. Let's see what's outside. * PeriBrown presses the door control ***** What the hell's that? It's...a blue box. Stay down. I'll go up to it. It looks like it belongs in here... Hmmm, feels like it's humming... * Maur looks in the window and sees nothing * James_Olson cautiously approaches, pipe in hand. * Maur pulls out his stazer... which he still has. Police public call box? * James_Olson scratches his head. Oh god, they're turing off the heat! Trying to drive us back, I suppose. Or kill us. Hmmm, if it's the Cybermen in there, we could try to jettison this garbage hold. Well, I don't think this is Cyber technology. * James_Olson backs away from the TARDIS But let's be on the safe side. * James_Olson fumbles throuhg his pockets for a small scanner used for technical work * PeteDoc and Peri step out of the TARDIS. * Maur points his gun at the Doctor and Peri * James_Olson looks up and nearly falls over from surprise Don't move! Who are you? * James_Olson regains his composure and stands * James_Olson approaches cautiously Hey...you - you do know you're not supposed to point that at people, right? * PeriBrown smiles nervously That's what guns are for... pointing... and shooting. It's okay, Peri. I think they're just startled. They have Earth accents, Maur. Yes...but hers is obviously badly disguised. What's wrong with my accent? It keeps slipping from one accent to another. I lived abroad. What's it to you? Names would help. I'm Olson, James Olson. And this is Maur. How rude of me...My name's the Doctor and this is my assistant... I'm Perpugilliam Brown. My *friends* call me Peri. Hello Doctor, hello Peri. * James_Olson looks into the Doctor's eyes and decides he is not a threat I think we can trust them. We've just been attacked. We're not exactly having a good day. Yeah, we are under a bit of stress. Attacked? By who? Cybermen. Cybermen. Cybermen? Cybermen. * PeriBrown looks at the Doctor for clarification Yes, you know them? Yes, I know them of old. Then you probably have done more homework than us. They were in a ship, dead in space... No engine power. We docked with them... I only heard some of the screams on the intercom. A couple came on board, killed Chandler before he even had a chance. I got hit by one of them, and it hurts. I managed to cut off the engines from them. Hopefully they won't be able to get us without help from us... but they might manage, in time. One was taller than the rest and had black headgear. The funny thing was, they were aboard a human derelict. If it was a Cybership, our computer would have warned us because there is a war going on with them back home. I thought the best idea would be to get aboard their ship. * James_Olson nods We are trying to decide what to do. Since you "know them of old", Doctor, what do you think? Though even with two engineers, it might take a bit of doing to go through their ship. So what do you think we should do, Doctor? Right, I'd think it'd be best if we get into more hospitable surroundings. I think Peri here would agree. Please. * James_Olson sniffs the air Yeah. * Maur nods * James_Olson goes over to the vent * PeriBrown is trying not to step on the pile of rotting apple cores that are so fouling her breathing passages * Maur climbs up I'll hike you up. * James_Olson gestures for the Doctor and Peri to come over to be pushed up into the vent Gee, thanks. * PeriBrown steps into the man's cradled hands * James_Olson lifts You got it, Peri? * PeriBrown grabs the vent lip and pulls herself in We have several choices. We can try and look for other survivors. The Cybermen might even have tried to get one of the other engineers to help them take over the engine. We could try and send a distress signal...though the Cybermen might track it. Or we could try and board their ship. So, which should we? Or should we split up? * PeteDoc climbs into the vent. * PeriBrown starts crawling, glad that she traded her shorts for something more practical for this kind of thing * James_Olson hikes the Doctor up * James_Olson scrambles into the airlock as well * James_Olson grunts and curses as he pulls himself up * Maur helps pull Olson up * Cyberleader_ turns the ship-wide intercom on. Humans, surrender and you will not be harmed. Ha. Fat chance. You will be fed and nurtured and made like us. I doubt that. Surrender now and we will not damage you. *bong* OK, what do we do? Go to the Cybership, or stay on this hunk of junk? * James_Olson looks expectantly at the Doctor I'll try and get into the Cyber ship. James, you're good with the comm equipment. Do you want to try and rig up a distress signal? Or scan the ship for human life? I could, but I'm sure the Cybermen would find and deactivate it. Yeah, that's true...but you might relay it. Besides, it would take weeks for a ship to get here. Go through several systems...they'll track it, but not before some signal gets sent out. Though the Cybermen will eventually cut it. But maybe not in enough time. * Cybermat slithers around, unseen Then I'll have to get to the bridge. Who'll come with me? I'll take the ship... * PeteDoc looks to Olson. I'm going with the Doctor. Maur, your staser. I think most of the Cybermen are on this ship now. More likely I'll need it. * Maur gives his stazer to Olson And give me your tools... might need them. * PeriBrown reaches a junction in the vent and uses this to turn around and face the others Which way? Peri, I think it's best you go with Olson. You'll be safer on the bridge. I'll go with Maur. * James_Olson holds out his hand to Peri Come on, then. * James_Olson crawls off * PeriBrown grimaces and looks between them * PeriBrown really doesn't want to go with Olson, but figures the Doctor knows what he's doing * PeriBrown sighs and follows Olson Alright, Doc. Should we go throuhg the airlock? Or go get some space suits and go round through space? Well, the Cybermen will most likely be guarding the airlock... so let's go around and find the back door. Right. Let's go to the secondary airlock and get some suits. There aren't that many Cybermen, and they can't be everywhere at once... * PeteDoc follows Maur to the secondary airlock. * Cybermat slithers behind some boxes ***** * James_Olson wiggles through the corridor You can stay in the vents if you like while I try and send the signal... * James_Olson scrabbles down the corridor and looks through a vent to get his bearings I'm coming with you, James, so tell me what to do. OK. Do you know anything about astronavigation? Or communications equipment? Um...no. I study...studied...botany. OK. In that case, just stay in the vents if you feel safer. If not, I'll help you out and we'll do this as quick as we can. I said I'm coming with you! All right. ::sighing:: Come on. Okay. * James_Olson moves down a shaft and looks out a vent to get his bearings. Hmmm, the cafeteria. OK, the bridge will be somewhere up there and to the left...or is it to the right? * PeriBrown nods, though James cannot see her Damn, whats that? What if we just get out here and walk there? I would, but I don't know where the Cybermen have posted guards. * James_Olson pulls the staser out more for morale than anything There might be some kind of weapon in the cafeteria. Secret sauce! * PeriBrown laughs I was thinking of a cleaver, actually. * James_Olson thinks back to his history books, trying to remember something important he learned about Cybermen in history... The Earth Republic defeated the Cybermen using some strange method... Oh well, it'll come to me. * James_Olson continues along * PeriBrown sighs Well, I'm tired of waiting around. Come on. * PeriBrown kicks out the vent and pushes herself through into the cafeteria Hey! Goddammit! * James_Olson slides through and lands ungracefully OOF! * PeriBrown looks around the room as she wanders further in I don't see any Cybermen, whatever they are. * James_Olson gets up and grabs Peri by the arm What if a Cyberman were right here? You'd be dead, if there were. Well, there's not. * PeriBrown pulls away from James and heads for the counters Now, stay near me, please. * James_Olson moves across the cafeteria * James_Olson looks at the tables and at the counters You see anything? * PeriBrown finds a hefty-looking metal meat tenderizer and takes it with her * James_Olson raises an eyebrow Good, but how about that Maser-cooker instead? Oh, wait! * PeriBrown runs to the wall and grabs a blowtorch This looks like fun. * PeriBrown grins That'll do. The bridge is that way. * PeriBrown follows James toward the bridge ***** * Cybermat hops into an air vent and slithers along * Cybermat bumps against the walls of the vent, making metallic clanging noises * Cybermat slithers and bumps some more - aimlessly travelling through the air vents * Cybermat slithers around a few more corners Right, Doc...here's your suit. * Maur puts on his suit Thank you. * PeteDoc puts on the suit. * Maur opens the airlock door Pressurizing. Opening airlock door. This is always scary for me. Entering a world with nothing to hold on to... * Maur goes out the door, holding onto the exterior wall * Cybermat falls out an open vent and lands on the floor What's that! What's what? Get out here, Doc... That snake thing's coming for you! * Cybermat slithers around toward a pair of shoes a few feet in front of it. * PeteDoc looks behind. Oh, it's gone now... It's a Cybermat! Or maybe not... * PeteDoc steps out in the void of space. * Cybermat leaps into the air, heading for the shoes It's got into the shoe! Grab the shoe... We'll throw it out into space. * PeteDoc tries to grab a hold of the Cybermat. * Cybermat feels heat * Cybermat targets the heat and leaps * Cybermat makes contact * Cybermat's poison contacts skin * Maur turns off the airlock atmosphere shield flushing them all out into space Turn on your magnetic boots! * PeteDoc turns on the magnetic boots. * Cybermat floats off harmlessly into space OK. We'll use the propulsion boosters to get to the frighter. * PeteDoc looks off in one direction and notices the nebula. So that's what drove me off course. Yes, the nebula. It's a very odd nebula... Odd? How? There's almost a neural network structure to it... Almost as if it were alive? Well, possibly. Or at least some intelligence. Right... Boosters on. *swoosh* * PeteDoc turns on the boosters and swooshes over to the freighter. Right... Let's find an access port in. ::a small beacon on the Cybermen's freighter suddenly comes alive as the Doctor and Maur pass by:: Strange...thought I saw something move. * PeteDoc looks over and doesn't see anything. ***** * Cyberperson pages Cyberleader Report! Leader, a proximity alert has been detected. Your presence is needed to deal with it. * James_Olson rounds a bend and peers out to see if a Cyberman is standing guard at the bridge door * James_Olson takes out a shiny piece of metal and angles it so he can see into the bridge I will investigate. Guard the controls. * Cyberperson stands guard Looks like the Cyberleader himself... Yikes. And he's leaving, get back! * Cyberleader_ marches off the bridge. * PeriBrown scuttles back into the shadows * James_Olson reangles the metal after the leader has gone by OK, looks like he left the panels more or less intact. And he left his gun! Is it safe to go in? Yes, it is. * James_Olson draws the staser and moves in cautiously * PeriBrown slowly stands up and peers along the corridor * PeriBrown clutches her blowtorch and follows James into the bridge * James_Olson picks up the leader's weapon * James_Olson puts it over his shoulder on the leather thong and starts to prise off the comm panel OK. * PeriBrown hovers by his shoulder Peri, could you hand me those tools over there? * James_Olson points Sure. * PeriBrown fetches the tools and hands them to him * James_Olson takes a hydrospanner and sets to work * James_Olson is sweating lightly for fear of being discovered I am capable of doing useful things, you know. Like... guarding the door. * PeriBrown moves over to the door * James_Olson smiles slightly OK, go for it. * James_Olson fuses some silicon wiring together * James_Olson repositions a few circuitboards * PeriBrown squints down the corridor and suddenly notices a flash of silver Uh-oh, I think I see trouble coming. * James_Olson wipes his brow I'm almost there. * Cyberperson marches along * PeriBrown ducks around the side of the door as the Cyberman approaches and turns on her blowtorch This circuit is caught. I can't get it in... Hurry! * PeriBrown's voice is tense * James_Olson pushes down hard * James_Olson stops and gently slides it into place, and a small amber light starts pulsating THERE! Go go go! * PeriBrown raises the blowtorch as the Cyberman enters, steels herself, and turns it up to full in the creature's face * Cyberperson tosses its arms about and makes noises in the heat * James_Olson whips around with the Cyber blaster * James_Olson fiddles with the unfamiliar mechanism * PeriBrown sees the blaster and jumps out of James' way * Cyberperson continues making noises and tossing arms about, knocking things over * James_Olson gets closer to make sure it kills the thing * James_Olson points it at the tubing in the lower torso * James_Olson is knocked over by the Cyberman * James_Olson desperately raises the weapon and fires right into the large tubes on the torso * Cyberperson falls backwards and lands on the ground, flailing arms and feet wildly and yelling. * James_Olson watches as the Cyberman explodes in a disgusting hail of white and green fluid and complex circuitry * James_Olson looks at the whitish fluid emitting from the mouth Ewwww! * Cyberman_bits_and_pieces fly around, hitting people and making a few cuts * PeriBrown gags as she finds her clothes covered in Cyberguts OK, that's just about the most awful thing I've ever seen... Let's get back in the vents, the Cybermen are SURE to know we are here now! All right. * PeriBrown turns off the blowtorch, jumps over the Cyberman's remains and heads for the cafeteria * James_Olson follows ***** * PeteDoc finds a hatch over the freighter. * PeteDoc, still outside of the freighter, tries to open up the hatch. I wish I had my sonic screwdriver. Right...with my engineering skills, opening this hatch will be easy as...well, something easy. * PeteDoc looks over to the nebula. There...got the hatch open. That's odd. We seem to be drifting closer to the nebula. * _Nebula_ sparks * PeteDoc looks at Maur. * _Nebula_ seems to be extruding a tendril toward the derelict freighter Oh, don't worry about the nebula. Within the ship, we should be safe, though we might lose sensors and some energy. Leader, we have two beings entering the ship! We will capture and take them to the hold for conversion. One is human, the other is a Time Lord! This may be the Time Lord known as the Doctor. He is an enemy of the Cybermen. Right, I'll go in first. Wish I had my stazer. * PeteDoc climbs into the freighter via the hatch. Coming in, Doc. * Maur goes into the hatch Careful, it's a bit of a far drop. * Maur jumps down Ouch...my ankle. * Cyberleader_ steps from the shadows. Halt! * PeteDoc sees the Cyberleader. Damn. Doc, try and get away if you can. Ouch... * Cyberleader_ gestures at the other Cyberman to intercept from behind. * PeteDoc looks behind and sees another Cybermen coming at them. * Cyberleader_ steps forwards. You are the Doctor. You are an enemy of the Cybermen. Ah, I see you do recognize me. * CyberPerson2 aims his gun * Cyberleader_ waves the gun down. So, what's your scheme of conquest this time? We will survive and conquer. We will multiply and divide. Yeah? Well, we can add and subtract. * Cyberleader_ waves a finger at Maur. You will be made like us. The destruction of the human freighter was only a setback. What human freighter? The human freighter we used to blow up the Earth. Yeah? Well, if you do, you'll never get our engines. We're the only ones who can dismantle that engine. Without us, it'll be worthless to you. You are irrelevant. Cybertechnology will triumph! We used our technology to control the frieghter to guide it to Earth, we can override your inferior systems. * PeriBrown and James creep into the hold and begin making their way silently to where the noises are (whispering) I sure hope you know what you are doing! * PeriBrown whispers back: We need to find the Doctor... I know. * James_Olson hefts the blaster ins shaking hands, and hands the staser over to Peri You know how to use this? * PeriBrown slides the stazer into a pocket I'll learn. * James_Olson half smiles Good. Well, what about the nebula? That certainly is going to cause a crimp in your plans of moving anyway. The nebula is of no concern. It will when you enter it...and that's what we've been doing, if you haven't noticed. We're being pulled into it. And when we enter that nebula, we'll lose power and sensors. And you tin-plated horse shoes will be helpless when you start losing power. We will use power from this freighter to boost the other ship from its grasp. Hah... Let them kill me, Doc. Then they'll never have their engine. Tell me. How is that you survived the crash? * James_Olson creeps around a silo and sees the leader and his deputy talking to the Doctor and Maur The freighter broke apart on entry. Only the bridge section entered the atmosphere. * James_Olson gets down, and uses the shiny bit of metal to see again The hold merely skimmed back into space, and back through time to the present. (whispering) OK, it looks like they have it in for the Doctor and Maur. We should probably try and do something. * _Nebula_ has, by now, drawn the freighter and attached ship to its wispy fringes Hey, wait...look at that!
