Er, a place, hmm. READ ALL ABOUT IT! Buy your newspaper here! * Doc1 fidgets with the TARDIS key. * Doc1 locks the TARDIS. * Doc1 grasps his lapels and looks around. Hey! Let's go buy a newspaper. That'll tell us where we are. * Newspaper_Guy waves a newspaper in the air and shouts again * Doc1 looks affronted. My dear boy, I know _exactly_ where we are! Now let's go and buy a newspaper shall we. That should tell us... tell us quite a bit, hmm? * Doc1 fumbles in his pockets for money. Here, Doctor, I got a American five cent piece here. Ah, thank you, Sheven. Er, Steven. * Doc1 walks over to the Newspaper vendor. * Newspaper_Guy spills a container of money - the money for the papers. * Newspaper_Guy scatters change everywhere * Newspaper_Guy picks it up and puts it back in the container Oh dear, clumsy fellow. Help him pick up his money, would you Steven? Excellent, sir - thank you very much. * Newspaper_Guy picks up the top paper from the stack and hands it to the gentleman * Newspaper is now in Doc1's hands * Newspaper_Guy wonders if one of these nickels was payment for the paper he just gave the gentleman? * Doc1 looks at the newspaper. Hmm, there, you see. Chicago! Didn't I tell you as much? Well, we know where we are. Anything interesting the paper, Doctor? * Newspaper has two major headlines One - A gangster in the Hightop Hotel was murdered... famous for making copies of art. Apparently he was shot in his hotel room after playing cards with three other gangsters from in town (the murdered was from outside town). They could not be reached for comment. Apparently the first one to find the dead body was the bus boy. Hmm, interesting... Do you think we should investigate? What's this article about an emerald choker, Doctor? The other article is a story about the new piece in at the Gorgash Museum, an emerald choker from Russia. * Newspaper crinkles It seems, M' boy, that there's a piece of Russian jewelery on show. Oh? Where? The Gorg.... Gog..... That museum there. Oh! The Gorgash Museum! Hmm, yes. Perhaps I should take you to see it. Expose you to some culture. Yes, I guess that would be nice. Nice? This is one of the most impotent gems in this little world! * Doc1 taps his lapels. You should be thankful! * BagLady totters by, muttering to herself * BagLady walks up to the odd white-haired man * Steven_ bumps into the BagLady Hey, watcheee where you go, young man. Hey! Watch where you're going! Excuse me, but I must ask you to move along. Ai! But I've a right to be here just as ye! Steven, stop harrassing... hmm.. people! * Bag_Lady dusts off her filthy dress Sorry, Doctor. * Bag_Lady gives Steven an icy stare * Bag_Lady mutters and continues on her way Now come along. We should find a hotel or something. * Sign for the Hightop Hotel gleams in the sun A hotel? I thought we were going to the museum first. Yes yes, in time. We need a base of, hmm, orerations so to speak. Hmm, I mean to say operations. * Doc1 looks around imperiously. Hey! There's a sign for the Hightop Hotel! Aha, that looks most promising. Isn't that where the murder took place last night? I say, Steven. Would you say that is a hotel or a museum? * Doc1 squints. Oh, oh yes. We should go and see if they need any help. ***** * FrontDeskWoman snaps open a makeup case and applies a gob of blazing red lipstick ::smack:: ::snaps case shut:: * FrontDeskWoman snaps her long red fingernails * Beiser hurries around the hotel lobby, doing various managerial duties * SgtDuncan enters the hotel with a group of policmen Excuse me, Miss Front Desk Woman. I'm here concerning the ::whispering:: murder Do you see a bell there? * SgtDuncan rings the bell Yes. How may I...ahem...help you? ::flutters eyelashes:: I'm here concerning the ::suspicious whisper:: murder... A what? That's right, the MURDER. Do I have to scream it so loudly that everyone including those blokes over there hear? ::loudly:: Oh, a MURDER? * Beiser hears the commotion and comes over For heavens' sake, keep quiet! ::snaps fingers:: ::points at the Sgt:: We've lost enough guests as it is. ::rolls eyes sarcastically:: As if. Manager Beiser. Yes...? * Beiser scans the man's uniform Duncan. How may we help you? ::checks fingernails:: Oh, I chipped my POLISH!! Please show me to the deceased Mr Ivan Weatherbee. * Beiser blinks * SgtDuncan shows his ID * FrontDeskWoman looks up from her nails. The deceased Mr Ivan Weatherbee is in the morgue, where he belongs. We don't keep dead bodies lying around the hotel room floors where they were killed, you know. Weatherbee? Oh that bloke that dropped dead on the third floor? And which room was his? He was in room 108. * DonBob with his boys watches the goings on Hmm, I feel like there are at least 4 pairs of eyes watching me... 108. Very well. Has anyone else been in to see him or that room? 108. Hmm I thought he was... ::walks off to small room behind desk:: No, not since the bellhop discovered Mr Weatherbee. We've kept it sealed up, as we thought you'd want it. If they do, I would like to be informed immediately. Of course. * SgtDuncan heads to the room in question * Doc1 wanders into the lobby. Ah yes, this is a most spectacular, hmm, museum. Doctor, we're in a hotel. Ah, I knew that, dear boy. I was just making sure you were, umm, paying attention. * DitzyBlonde enters the revolving doors DonBob! Yoo hoo! * DitzyBlonde scurries up to DonBob in stiletto heels * DitzyBlonde disappears in the background * Beiser walks up to the Doctor and Steven Welcome to the Hightop Hotel. Daisy at the front desk will take care of you. * Beiser smiles and walks off Ah, hmmm. Let's go over to the front desk over here and ask for directions to the museum. * Doc1 wanders to the front desk. May I be of any assistance? Aha, yes, you may indeed. Yes, and what would that be, now? * Daisy___ turns on the radio What's this I read about a murder, hmm? Oh hush, now, my favorite radio program is coming on the air. * Busgirl appears by the desk and salutes * Busgirl 's cap falls down her brow ::plunk:: * Busgirl picks it up off the floor and frowns * Busgirl snaps it back on her head. * Busgirl stands at attention * Steven_ hears ragtime playing on the radio that Daisy turned on. Oh darn, I missed it... Now, you were saying? * Doc1 thumps the paper down on the desk. * Daisy___ reads the paper This murder, hmm. Oh my, you want to know about Mister Weatherbee. * Busgirl's expression changes at the mention of Weatherbee * Busgirl slowly backs away from the table Yes, I... Steven, pay attention! Sorry, Doctor, I was only staring at the busgirl over there. * Busgirl notices Steven staring at her and blushes * Busgirl smiles at Steven * Steven_ waves back to the Busgirl * Busgirl blushes even more pinker Well, don't tell anyone I told you, but Sally told Mary that Elma had said to July that that guy was with three gangsters last night...and had made a fortune. Gangsters, hmmm... But this better not go back to me. * Doc1 nods knowingly. But of course, *ahem* I could be of better help with a *wink* *hint* bit of green stuff too... Hmm, yes, we should need some rooms for the night also. * Daisy___ gives Doc a room key. Please sign here. * Doc1 signs. * Doc1 fidgets in his pockets. * Doc1 puts a mouldy sandwich on the counter. * Daisy___ reads the Doc's signature You were saying about green stuff, hmm? Nonono, this simply will not do. That signature's illegible. And I cant read it none, either. * Doc1 looks at the signature. Here, I'll sign. I have better handwriting than he does. * Busgirl looks down -- and checks her watch * Busgirl's eyebrows fly up * Busgirl waves at Steven and mouths "Bye! Catch you around!" * Busgirl winks and grins * Busgirl hurries to a room in the back * Daisy___ waits for some green cash/moolah * Doc1 puts his sandwich away to eat later. * Doc1 produces some old notes from his pocket. * Doc1 holds the notes up to the light. Hmm, yes, I think these should do. * Daisy___ takes the note Hey, this is a shopping list. * Doc1 hands the money to Daisy. * Daisy___ takes a note British money? Well, I guess I can get it exchanged. Now, you see Busgirl over there? She bused on Weatherbee and she were the one who found his dead corpse there. I'll talk to her and see if she can't answer some questions when she gets off duty. * Doc1 hums. * Busgirl SCREAMS What was that? Hmm, someone screaming, Steven. Surely you can tell. Yes, she's not very accustomed to British men...especially after the thing she witnessed. * Busgirl hurries back into the front desk Sorry...saw a big cockroach. * Busgirl salutes and straightens her suit She's been on edge, so don't push her too much. * Busgirl is still shuddering Hmm, yes, of course. I see...Come along, Doctor... We got a murder mystery to investigate. Humph, yes my boy. Of course. Here, Miss Busgirl (unusual name, I know, but I hear she has a good background) will take your baggage upstairs. * Busgirl heads over to the strangers' suitcases * Busgirl picks up one and struggles with the other uhhh... ::strains:: * Beiser walks back through the lobby to greet another incoming couple Mr Manager? * Daisy___ goes to the manager to tell him about the two strange men * Busgirl looks down Whoops. Wrong suitcases. * Busgirl blushes * Beiser stops back by the Doctor and Steven Is everything being taken care of to your satisfaction? Hmm, yes, I think so. Good, good. Let me know if there's anything more we can do for you. * Beiser smiles again and walks into a back room * Busgirl walks up to the Doctor I can't seem to find your baggage. Ah, excuse me, young woman. You saw a murder? * Busgirl looks away and frowns I think we should go to our rooms now, Doctor. Yes, yes of course. I've already told the sergeant all I know. * Doc1 pats the Busgirl on the arm. * Busgirl flinches at the touch Doc, this is no time to be hitting on some girl half your age. Let's go to our room and rest up for tomorrow. Yes, lead the way would you, Steven? * Busgirl frowns at Steven and heads back to the back room Doctor... * Busgirl turns around * Steven_ and the Doctor go into the elevator. * Busgirl runs to the elevator and barely gets in You know...you seem like a person I can trust. Unlike... ::gives Steven a look:: I saw some ID on the floor. Hmm? It had something like Police Department on it. But I saw the guy before he was... Aha. Fourth floor, please. ::lowers to a whisper:: He had a suitcase...I dont know what was in it but I overheard "greens". I guess it had a fortune. Hmm, yes, you should always eat your, eh, greens. * Doc1 nods. * Busgirl chuckles ::whipers:: I think she's referring to money. funny thing was...when I asked a few fellow 'hops about it they said that they saw no suitcase, and I stopped by when I was off duty...it wasn't there. That's all I know, sir. Hmm, very interesting, dear girl. Thank you, you've been a great help. * Busgirl nods * Doc1 pats the Busgirl on the head. * Steven_ and the Doctor step out of the elevator. 'bye. Enjoy your stay. * Steven_ notices the elevator person with his hand out. * Busgirl steps on the person's foot and gives him a look. Let 'em go. It's on us. * Steven_ and the Doctor arrive at the door to the room. * Busgirl goes down * Busgirl arrives on the first floor * Busgirl passes by Daisy and disappears into the back room * Busgirl makes a mental note to beat up Jack the elevator guy later * Busgirl enters the women's locker * Busgirl looks around. Hello? * handgun is raised by a hand * handgun points at busgirl No! * handgun shoots * handgun shoots again * Busgirl screams * Busgirl falls to the floor, barely breathing * handgun shoots yet AGAIN * Busgirl's eyes close slowly and she dies. ::the hand checks the pulse...to make sure she's...DEAD:: ::ending credits for first episode:: * SgtDuncan is examining the crime scene * Beiser makes sure that he has finished up all the pressing items, then heads down the hall toward room 108 * FrontDeskLady exits the back room, filing her nails * FrontDeskLady takes her place at the desk * FrontDeskLady huffs on her nails and rubs them on her bosom * FrontDeskLady spots the cute Italian guy in the corner and winks * Beiser looks in the doorway Duncan? Ah, Beiser, thank you for informing the other three gangsters that I will require them. You're most welcome. I've also come across some information I thought you might like to know. Ahh, good. Well? * SgtDuncan looks at Beiser suspiciously... hmm, could he have done it? Daisy tells me that two of our most recent guests were asking about the murder. Apparently they saw it in the paper, so it's probably nothing untoward, but I thought it could be important. They've been doing an awful lot of asking around. Is that so? Please bring those guests to me, immediately. Right now? They've just retired to their rooms. Right now, Mr Beiser... The field of crime detection knows no hours of operation. Very well. Good. * Beiser heads for the staircase * Beiser ascends the stairs and makes his way to one of the two rooms - this one registered to a Taylor, Steven. * Beiser knocks Management. Ah, Steven. Room service is here! * Doc1 opens the door. You're Steven Taylor? Have you got my kipper, hmm? Pardon? No, no, er...kipper. No kipper? Humph! Doctor, he doesn't look like room service. The policeman, Duncan, he's requesting your presence in room 108. I believe he has some questions he wants to ask you. Aha. I should like to talk to him. Now, Doctor? * Beiser answers for the Doctor Yes, I'm afraid so. He was rather insistent. Yes, why not? * Steven_ shrugs. The visit to the museum will have to wait. If you'll follow me? Come along, Steven. * Beiser takes the Doctor and Steven back down to room 108 * JanitorTed shuffles by the trio. Lot of guests can't keep their heads on... * JanitorTed disappears around the corner Ahh, hello. You must be the Doctor. ::looking at Steven:: And you must be Mr Taylor. ::looking to the Doctor:: * Doc1 glances at Steven. I'm not the Doctor. ::points:: He is. How on earth could you make such an elementary mistake?! * Doc1 clutches his lapels. The very idea! Now, would you like to explain what precisely you are doing here, asking lots of questions and interfering and hampering the investigation of me and my colleagues? Hampering?! I should say helping! Give me one reason why I should believe you. Do you have any references or important friends? Like, say, the police commissioner, or the mayor or the governor or the president? I should mention that they certainly haven't stayed in the Hightop before. Yes, all of them of course. Oh? Now shall we look over the scene, hmm? If you're lying, it'll be to jail with all of you, including you, Beiser! Me?! I've done nothing. * SgtDuncan makes a quick call or 4 Oh, appears you are their friends. So sorry. But, you know, we must do our duty. Humph! Of course, don't worry about it dear boy. Now, where were we? Now, as you can see from the outline, this is where Mr Weatherbee was shot. He was preforming an undercover operation. Hmm, yes. * Doc1 nods knowingly. We learned that the great Pordinony, the creator of fake arts, had been arrested on his way here, so we substituted our Weatherbee for him to act as the seller of the fake object in question. Yes, a most sensible course of action. Pordinony, you say? * Doc1 tuts. Pordinony? Yes Pordinony, an Italian man. We sem to get lots of Italians here. Anyway. He was shot, as is quite conclusive, but we cannot find any trace of bullets. And now we don't know which gangster is the murderer and if he's the same person as the person planning the robbery, who we don't know either. None? Bullets, yes, hmm. You would find those if he were, hmm, shot here perhaps. But not if he were shot _elsewhere_ and bought here. * Doc1 looks smug. Yes, but he was shot here, because one can find trace particles of gun powder, and no blood movement, except where he was shot. He was most definitely shot in this room, despite that everything indicates that he wasn't. Another odd thing was the fact that the thermostat has been turned up high, despite the obvious warm weather. * SgtDuncan looks smugger Herumph. Perhaps you think they were dissolving bullets, hmm? Dissolving bullets? Next you'll talk of ray guns. Hmm, well, that's a possibility I wouldn't rule out either. * Doc1 waggles his finger. * Steven_ watches the Doctor waggle his finger. Very well, can you show me something to indicate that it would be "dissolving bullets"? Despite the ridiculousness of it? * Doc1 looks taken aback. Well, I should think there would be puddles. Puddles of what? * Doc1 looks at Steven irritatedly. Puddles of poodles? Well, of whatever the bullets were made from, of course! Nonsense, bullets arent made of liquid. Perhaps it was ray-guns after all, then. * Beiser smirks Normal bullets, perhaps. Why should normal bullets make puddles? * Doc1 flusters. I mean to say normal bullets aren't made from ice. Well, now that you mention it, I suppose they aren't! But perhaps these ones were! Aha. But how did you figure that out? I am simply following a hunch. How would the murderer have kept them frozen? And surely ice bullets would still have made marks on the wall. * Doc1 shakes his head. Now stop fussing and take a look around. Hmm, I believe I found your puddle, here. Seems to have dried up... Aha! Perhaps that's why the temperature was high. Hmm, there you are then. The murderer wanted to eliminate all trace of the bullets. * Steven_ hears menacing organ music. Well, it seems I have been some help after all, hmm? * Doc1 looks smuggest. ::to be continued!::
